Topic 01
Ordering and products
How much does a turf roll cover?
Each roll covers one square metre. A typical roll is approximately 1.65m long by 0.61m wide and around 20mm thick.
How much does a turf roll weigh?
A roll normally weighs approximately 20–25kg, although weight varies with moisture and the time of year.
Can I order half a bulk bag of soil?
No. Top soil and compost are supplied as complete bulk bags, normally weighing approximately 850kg.
How do I calculate the amount I need?
Use our turf or soil calculator and include a small allowance for cuts, shaping and settlement. Our team can also help on 01902 784866.
Can I return excess turf?
Fresh turf is a perishable product cut specifically for your order, so excess turf cannot normally be returned or refunded. Calculate carefully before ordering.
Topic 02
Delivery and collection
Can I collect turf?
Yes. Choose Click & Collect during checkout and select an available date. Turf is cut fresh, so please do not arrive without a confirmed collection.
How is turf delivered?
Turf is palletised and delivered kerbside using either our own forklift-equipped vehicles or a third-party pallet courier.
Do I need to be at home?
Not always, but we require a working contact number and clear delivery instructions. Safe access and a suitable kerbside unloading point remain essential.
Can the driver take products behind my house?
No. Delivery is kerbside only and products cannot be lifted over walls, fences or hedges.
What if access is restricted?
Tell us about narrow roads, parked vehicles, slopes, gravel, height limits and other restrictions when ordering. Undisclosed restrictions can cause a failed delivery and additional charges.
What happens to the pallet?
The pallet remains with the customer and should be reused or disposed of responsibly.
Can I change my delivery date?
Contact us as early as possible. Fresh turf may already have been cut if changes are requested close to delivery, which can affect refunds and redelivery charges.
Topic 03
Turf laying and aftercare
How quickly should turf be laid?
Lay turf as soon as possible after delivery, ideally on the same day. Warm weather shortens the safe rolled-up period considerably.
What if I cannot lay it immediately?
Unroll the turf on a clean, flat surface in a cool area and keep it moist. Contact TurfWorld for advice if a significant delay is unavoidable.
Can I lay new turf over existing grass?
No. Remove existing grass, weeds and debris, then cultivate, firm and level the soil before laying new turf.
How often should I water new turf?
Water immediately after laying and keep the soil beneath consistently moist while roots establish. In warm weather, check the lawn morning and evening.
When should I first mow?
Wait until the turf has rooted, commonly around 10–14 days. Use the mower’s highest setting and never remove more than one-third of the grass leaf.
Should I fertilise my lawn?
Yes, but use a lawn feed appropriate for the season and follow the manufacturer’s application instructions carefully.
